Courses & Curriculum

Great literature is the core of our curiculum. Literature majors, students heading for high/middle school teaching, and creative writers choose from a rich array of courses. Click here for a full course listing.

B.A. in Literature:

The literature major is designed for students who want a solid liberal arts background in literature of for those who are headed toward graduate school. Our major includes courses in British literature, American literature, and two elective courses in literature. Our curriculum includes those writers and works that are most frequently covered in the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and the Major Field Achievement Test (MFAT). Students may also choose from several world literature courses.

B.S. in English Education:

Students opting for English education degrees also have departmental requirements in addition to courses required by the School of Education. Our goal is to cover the literature most likely needed for teaching high school or middle school. In the past decade, all of our English education students who have sought teaching jobs upon graduation have been successful.
